NME covers

As i plan to do a Christmas/new year themed magazine comparisons of how magazines are likely to differ is vital. The iconic colour for NME magazine is red, as you can see this makes it simple for them to create a Christmas issue as it is already a Christmas colour, but they have managed to incorporate the theme also by using a green colour scheme for their central image. They've also altered their masthead by adding a snow effect to fit the season. With the exception of other themed issues, NME are consistent in their usage of a white background for their covers, as you can see they've dropped this for their Christmas issue and replaced it with a Christmas setting. They've also cleverly made a relation between their main story and its original source through font. The font highlighted above in pink is the original font used in Tim Burton's 'Nightmare Before Christmas' which is the theme of their interview. It also features the usage of 'presents' and 'starring' which is a direct link to the film medium. In the regular issue you can see that they generally use the same font for the whole cover, including the main headline and masthead. In the christmas issue this is altered for the main headline. To maintain their edge in the Christmas issue they've created the image of elves with sledge hammers, this suggests a destructive nature rather than the creative one that is generally associated with Christmas.
