Target audience
The genre of music I'm choosing to use for my music magazine is indie. Although this is a genre of music that is highly covered, i feel there is a gap in the market for a magazine that looks at this style of music with a different ideology. Currently most music magazines of this particular genre take the music far too seriously, rather than presenting music as entertainment it can be seen too thoroughly as a business. I want the idea behind my magazine to be serious but fun at the same time, for this I've had a few ideas on making my music magazine sophisticated much like Q magazine but creating a juxtaposition by introducing characters that don't quite fit in with a sophisticated audience, with that idea in mind my music magazine is likely to appeal to indie rocker types ranging from 16 to 19 years old. However another idea I've been thinking of is still using these characters but instead of creating an opposing imagery i may run entirely with the theme of fun in music, this theme is likely to appeal to a slightly younger audience, possibly 14 to 16 years old. Whether or not i follow through with this idea depends on the results of the survey I'm going to conduct in order to find out what it is readers want.
